  • Intro to Square Foot Gardening

    Description:

    Square Foot Gardening is an easy way to plan and plant your garden, using permanent beds to maximize production in small spaces. Peter Burke will join us to discuss all aspects of your garden from planning to planting, constructing raised beds, creating permanent paths, trellising, and methods to avoid a jungle of weeds in August!

    Peter Burke is a Certified Square Foot Garden Teacher and has been using and teaching the Square Foot Gardening method since 1981. 

    Class will be held in the Community Room of the South End store.

    Join Julie Rubaud at Red Wagon Plants for this hands-on workshop. Each participant will design and plant a beautiful, cold hardy planter that is sure to help usher in spring. Combining beauty and purpose, we will include a few edible flowers and herbs into each pot.

  • Growing an Herbal Tea Garden

    Description:

    Consider adding the medicinal and culinary benefits of herbs into your garden and landscape this season! Kara Buchanan, Co-director of Spoonful Herbals shares her decades of herb gardening experience and some of her favorite plants suitable for our Vermont climate for making delicious teas and quality medicine. We’ll discuss plant and site selection, trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals, propagation techniques, flavor and medicinal qualities, best harvesting practices, and suggestions for drying and storage of your harvests. She'll also share a brief lesson about making quality teas from both fresh and dried plant material.

    Kara Buchanan received her formal herbal training at the Sage Mountain Advanced Herbal Training Program with Rosemary Gladstar. As a community herbalist, culinary creatrix, and master gardener, she has created products and maintained medicinal herb gardens for more than two decades. She is co-director, educator and gardener at Spoonful Herbals. She stewards the Rooted Heart Rising medicinal garden at Rock Point in Burlington, VT which serves as the primary classroom for Spoonful's Community Herbalism Apprenticeship program and grows many of the cultivated plants used in Spoonful Herbals products.
