Greenhouse Apprenticeship – hiring now!

Vermont Garden Network is offering a part-time, seasonal apprenticeship position to support our work in the Greenhouse at Landry Park, in Winooski. The Greenhouse Apprentice will gain valuable experience with greenhouse management, seed starting and community scale agriculture.

Time Commitment

This is a part-time, seasonal position from the last week of April through July.

This position requires a very specific time commitment to fulfill tasks during morning and evening shifts, when plants in the greenhouse need the most attention. 

Weekly hours will vary between 10-15 hours, with daily hours divided between a morning shift (between 6-9am) and an evening shift (between 5-8pm). We have scheduling flexibility to cover some shifts, however the ideal candidate would be available at least five, ideally seven, days a week.

Responsibilities

  1. Watering: morning and evening shifts, in greenhouse and adjacent garden
  2. Plant care: seeding, potting up, fertilizing
  3. Maintain inventories: restock and organize materials (seeds, trays, labels, soil)
  4. Tidying up: sweep, clean trays, pull weeds, empty compost
  5. End of day tasks: roll down side walls, tend to hardening off tables

Desired Skills

  • Detail oriented and reliable.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Willing and able to receive guidance and work independently.
  • Interest in seeds, gardening/farming, community food access.
  • Prior experience with seed starting at the home or farm scale is a plus.
  • Winooski residents and/or living nearby the greenhouse is a plus.

Compensation

This is a part-time, seasonal position compensated at $15 per hour.
