2011 School Community Garden Mini-grant Program

On April 12, 2011, Friends of Burlington Gardens awarded 40 mini-grants totaling $40,000 to support school community garden programs directly involving Vermont children and youths in hands-on food production education during the school year and summer months.

The mini-grants will provide reimbursements for site improvements including raised beds, top soil and compost, fencing, water systems, garden signs, tool storage boxes, wheelbarrows, and basic garden tools. The 40 mini-grant recipients were mailed award packets on April 14.

Funding for the mini-grant program is provided by a federal grant secured by Friends of Burlington Gardens and the Vermont Community Foundation with the support of Senator Bernie Sanders.

Ninety mini-grant applications were received for the 40 mini-grant awards. Thank you to all the applicants and to review committee members Nancy Hulett, Nina McDonnell, Jenn McGowan, Kim Potter, and Will Workman for their efforts!
