Thanks to an energetic and talented group of interns, VCGN is able to facilitate hands-on garden education–for seniors, adults, children and families, in residential settings, at the hospital, and in community gardens, with New American communities, UVM Medical Center patients, beginner organic gardeners, family play groups, restaurant workers, and others. Meet the team!
Liza Greene is serving as VCGN’s SHECP Garden Education and Food Access Intern, helping with the Janet S. Must Family Room Garden, UVMMC-based Gardening for Health, Ethan Allen Resident Senior Gardening Program and resident gardens in Chittenden and Addison Counties.
Hi! My name is Liza Greene. I am from Park City, Utah and attend Hamilton College where I am concentrating in sociology, and minoring in environmental studies and education. I have found that VCGN represents a perfect intersection across all three of these fields and I am looking forward to developing a greater understanding of garden initiatives and food sovereignty this summer, while also getting to know and experience the awesome community in Burlington!
Sharon Newman is serving as one of VCGN’s Garden Education Interns, supporting ShiftMeal’s Coop Victory Garden, Janet S. Must Family Room Garden, UVMMC-based Gardening for Health, Ethan Allen Resident Senior Gardening Program, and Washington County affordable housing gardens.
Hi I’m Sharon! I’m an environmental studies student at the University of Vermont. I joined VCGN as an intern after an amazing experience volunteering through ShiftMeals last summer. I love connecting to the earth through growing food and sharing that experience with others!
Isabel Curtin is serving as one of VCGN’s Garden Education Interns, supporting ShiftMeal’s Coop Victory Garden, Janet S. Must Family Room Garden, UVMMC-based Gardening for Health, Ethan Allen Resident Senior Gardening Program, and Chittenden County affordable housing gardens.
Hi all! I’m one of the garden education interns at VCGN. I’m a junior at UVM studying food systems and community and international development. I’m originally from Marblehead, Massachusetts but am super excited to be spending my first summer here in Vermont gardening.
Quinn DiFalco is working as the Season Long Apprentice for VCGN. In this role she assists as a Garden Mentor for the Co-op Victory Garden in partnership with Shift Meals, helps manage communal beds at the Community Teaching Garden, and aids in the demonstration plot and course at New Farms for New Americans.
Hi All! My name is Quinn; I studied Health and Society with a focus on Integrative Health Care and I am interested in the intersection of food and food systems with our public health system. I took the Community Teaching Garden course during the pandemic and found it incredibly empowering and fulfilling during a very strange and difficult time for us all; I am excited to be helping empower other gardeners and farmers!
